Affordable-housing activists at Berlin found a grassroots campaign to induce the government of the city into taking over apartments worth billions. There have been protests against increasing rents in cities.
Merkel spokesman Steffen Seibert said the chancellor does not think that is the perfect solution. He explained”the key to affordable living space is not expropriation but using a sufficient number of flats available.”
