Prominent Algerian businessman detained in corruption probe

Algerian public tv says the manager of Algeria’s biggest personal collection, Cevital, has been arrested following a corruption probe.

It states Issad Rebrab was arrested Monday and has since gone before the public prosecutor over alleged”overbilling” and”misrepresentation of this movement of funds” among other charges.

The arrest a part of a study to corruption targeting some 51 businessmen who are banned from leaving the African country.

Demonstrators angry at corruption in Algeria have because mid-February protested against corruption from the oil-rich nation. Algeria’s longtime President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been pushed out by them.

Authorities wish to reveal Algerians they are severe in rooting out any unlawful activity.
