Yasiel Puig Declares Dodgers Will Win National League West

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig celebrated while rounding third base and heading toward home after his game-winning three-run homer as a pinch hitter.

The home run by Puig came with one out in the bottom of the seventh helping lead the Dodgers to a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies and completed sweep of the three-game series. The win pushed the Dodgers lead in the National League West to a season-high 2 ½ games with just nine left to play in the regular season.

The Dodgers are 7-1 in their last eight games played and that winning stretch has been mirrored by Puig’s power at the plate.

Puig did not start Tuesday or Wednesday due to his reverse splits making him a bad matchup against left-handed starters for the Rockies. However, he pinch hit against Scott Oberg, a right-hander, for Brian Dozier and proceeded to hit his sixth home run over his last 18 at-bats.

His Wednesday night home run came almost 24 hours after his home in Encino, California had been burglarized Tuesday night, which is the fourth reported burglary in the last 18 months.

Puig, when asked, said everything was fine but did not give any details about the burglary incident.

Puig has an OPS that is 286 points higher against right-handers that it is against lefties since the beginning of 2017. However, Bud Black the Rockies manager kept Oberg on the mound to face Puig even though no one was on first and Chris Rusin a lefthander was in the bullpen warming up.

Puig proceeded to launch the second pitch from Oberg 420 feet over the left-center wall for his second pinch hit homer in his career.

Things have turned around for the Dodgers of late and odds makers have given Los Angeles a 91.9% opportunity of reaching the postseason by winning the NL West.

With Clayton Kershaw rounding back into top form and rookie Walker Buehler returning to earlier season form, the Dodgers are looking like division winners. In addition, Kenley Jansen has found his form against after missing time for a heart ailment.

The Dodgers hope to continue their timely hitting and strong pitching the final 10 days of the regular season in order to win the division and move on to the postseason.
