Anthony Rendon All Alone On Top Following Offensive Explosion

Going all the back to 1920, the time when RBIs became an official stat, no major league player had ever had a perfect day of 6-for-6, 3 home runs and 10 RBIs during the same game. That was until Sunday, when Anthony Rendon moved into a league of his own.

The Washington Nationals’ third baseman is now the first player in the majors to accomplish the feat following a historic day in Washington’s rout of 23-5 over the New York Mets at home.

Walker Cooper is the only batter to have six hits, 3 home runs and 10 RBIs during the same game. However, the former catcher with the Reds as 6-for-7, while killing Chicago pitching back in July of 1949.

Rendon had two RBIs in the first with a single; in the third hit a solo shot; in the fourth a three-run homer; in the fifth a 3-RBI double; in the seventh a single; and in the eighth a homer.

The bases clearing double came close to what would have been his fourth home of the game.

The 10 RBIs by Rendon set a franchise record for the Nationals.

Rendon became the third MLB player in history to have 6 hits and 10 RBIs in one game. The record for RBIs in one game was set by Jim Bottomley during 1924 and equaled by Mark Whiten in 1993.

The three home runs is the fifth time a Washington player has done so in franchise history. The previous four were Bryce Harper in 2015, Ryan Zimmerman in 2013, Adam Dunn in 2010 and Alfonso Soriano in 2006.

Rendon never had more than 4 RBIs in any previous game in his career before Sunday’s 10. It was also the first time he had more than one home run in the same game and his first six-hit game.

When Rendon knocked in Bryce Harper with a double, it was the 31st run Harper had scored this season. Harper ended the game with 32 runs scored after scoring 4 on Sunday. Harper’s 32 runs scored in April broke a record of 29 set in 1997 by Larry Walker.

Washington tied a franchise record dating back to 2005 for hits in one game with 23. The team set a new record for the franchise in runs scored with 23 as well. The team also set a record for the Nationals for homers in a single game with seven.
