Baltimore Orioles Sign Yovani Gallardo to three year deal

Yovani GallardoRumored to be part of Baltimore’s 2016 plans for several weeks, 29-year-old right-hander Yovani Gallardo signed a three-year, $35 million contract with the Orioles on Saturday. The package includes a $13 million team option for 2019 or a $2 million buyout after 2018.

Gallardo, who posted a 13-11 record and a 3.42 ERA over 33 starts and 184.1 innings for Texas last season, owns a 102-75 mark with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP and 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings over nine big league campaigns. He spent his first eight years in Milwaukee before a trade shipped him to the Rangers after the 2014 season.

Minus Wei-Yen Chen, who inked an off-season deal with the Miami Marlins, the Orioles’ 2016 rotation projects to feature Gallardo, Chris Tillman, Miguel Gonzalez, Ubaldo Jimenez and Kevin Gausman. Prospects Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey (who are battling back from injuries) could join the rotation at some point in 2016.

Baltimore might not be finished with shaping its 2016 roster. The club is reportedly favored to land free agent right fielder Dexter Fowler.
