Cubs’ first baseman Derrek Lee finished the season with a bang and for his efforts the BDD writers selected him as the September/October Player of the Month. Lee was the first BDD Player of the Month winner to not make a postseason roster.
In September/October, Lee hit 9 homers and knocked in 23 in 25 games. [...]

September/October left the BDD writers split when it came to pitchers and while co-winner Felix Hernandez cleaned up with 5 of the 9 first-place votes, Zack Greinke appeared on 8 of 9 ballots and garned enough support to split the voting with King Felix. Both pitchers had excellente months and earned September/October’s Pitcher of the [...]

Cuban masher Kendry Morales headlined BDD’s Player of the Month voting as the Angels’ first baseman grabbed 6 first-place votes and easily earned the title as our Player of the Month for August.
Morales hit 10 homers and knocked in 33 in 28 games with a .385/.409/.735 batting line. The first baseman added 8 doubles and [...]

August delivered a number of solid pitching performances and the BDD writers were torn on who to select with three different pitchers earning 3 first-place votes. The decision came down to second- and third-place with Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals picking up 3 second-place votes and a third-place vote to edge out his [...]

Things were going well for Matt Holliday in Oakland during the month of July. Then the veteran left fielder was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals and well turned to incredible.
After a slow start that many had dubbed as “expected” when Holliday moved from the hitter-friendly confines of Colorado to a less forgiving locale in [...]

If Wandy Rodriguez’s season started in July, we would have been talking about him like he was Zack Greinke. Actually, other than the record — Wandy was 4-0 — Wandy’s July may have been better than Greinke’s April. In July, the Houston Astros hurler posted a 0.75 ERA and 0.94 WHIP and added in a [...]

Here’s a shocker: Albert Pujols was BDD’s choice for Player of the Month in June! It was nice of the 2008 NL MVP to take a month off in May (he only hit .341/.477/.682 in May with eight homers) so the BDD writing team could honor someone else. Unfortunately for the rest of Major League [...]

Like Zack Greinke in April, San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum dominated BDD’s Pitcher of the Month voting in June and was the writer’s overwhelming choice receiving nine of 11 first-place votes for his impressive June performance.
Lincecum made six starts in June and all six were quality starts. The Giants went 4-2 in Lincecum’s starts and Lincecum [...]

It was a two-horse race but Zack Greinke couldn’t repeat as BDD’s Pitcher of the Month. Instead, Justin Verlander received 10 of the 14 first place votes and appeared on 12 of the 14 writer ballots cast to earn the title.
Verlander continued to impress as he has throughout his career in May. The Tigers ace [...]

Sorry, Albert! There’s a new Player of the Month in May according to Baseball Daily Digest’s writers. Enter Minnesota’s Joe Mauer, selected as BDD’s Player of the Month.
Mauer was an impressive 41-for-99 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 27 runs scored. His batting line of .414/.500/.838 computed to a 254 OPS+. During his impressive [...]
