Hey all,
Sorry for the delay on this top-100 list. There were some calculation problems (it was adding in Mexican League stats without translating them, making for some very “interesting” pitchers percolating to the top). But it should be good now. Cutoff is at 30 full-season innings, so some minor-league relievers show up [...]

As many of you know, I had the opportunity to attend Scout School a few years back courtesy of the Kansas City Royals. I used to think I had a pretty in-depth understanding of the amateur scouting business and, even though I don’t have a Rolodex the size of the one on Kevin Goldstein’s desk, [...]

The University of Kentucky’s SEC opening series March 19-21 brought a potential first-round June draft pick to Lexington in Ole Miss, left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz. The First-Team All-American justified his preseason accolades Friday night with a very strong outing. Last season, Pomeranz struck out 124 batters in 95 innings. This season, he’s improving that brilliant rate, entering the Kentucky series with [...]

This is the debut of what will hopefully be a semi-regular look at University of Kentucky baseball. Our first installment is bittersweet, as Kentucky’s 6-0 start to the season has been offset by news that they’ll finish the year without their best pitcher.
James Paxton, who I’m sure you’ve read about here, will not play for U.K. this [...]

University of Kentucky pitcher James Paxton will appeal a Kentucky Court decision that denied his Motion for a Temporary Injunction, which would have forced the school to allow him to play this spring.
(Previous articles on Paxton available here.)
Paxton’s attoney, Richard Johnson, filed a Motion for CR 65.07 Interlocutory Relief on January 27th. This motion is an appeal to the decision that denied [...]

On Friday, January 15, University of Kentucky senior pitcher James Paxton lost his case that would have forced the school to allow him to play despite questions from the NCAA about his amateur status.
This link can get you up to speed and contains links back to the start of this story, but the crux is that [...]

James Paxton’s attorney, Richard Johnson, claims the University of Kentucky violated Paxton’s rights as a student when they told him he had to sit for an interview with the N.C.A.A.
In an email sent out to the media, Johnson attached his reply to U.K.’s response to his client’s motion for temporary injunction. This was the formal reply he emailed us about, and [...]

It all started with the Toronto Blue Jays interim president laying out his reasons for missing out on signing their 37th overall pick in the MLB draft this past summer. Once the Toronto Globe and Mail quoted Paul Beeston in this article, Kentucky left-hander James Paxton’s college baseball career was in jeopardy.
Beeston was simply explaining to the media why he did not come to [...]

One of the best pitchers in college baseball is suing his school in order to play in 2010.
James Paxton, left-handed pitcher for the University of Kentucky, elected to return for his senior year even though the Toronto Blue Jays drafted him 37th overall this past June. However, the decision to do so is apparently not without consequences [...]

This is my debut covering University of Kentucky baseball. I consider myself lucky to be working with the U.K. Athletic Department, and the baseball team in particular, as I know from my experience with their camps that they are a great group of guys. I’m also fortunate because this could be a historic year as the Wildcats appear positioned to make a serious [...]
