According to a Twitter post from Rays beat writer Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, the Scott Kazmir-to-the-Angels deal isn’t dead, and in fact, should be “finalized within the hour.”
Kazmir reportedly was in the clubhouse walking around while talking on his cell phone.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post also reports that Kazmir will [...]

For some quick perspective on how remarkable this season has been for Tampa Bay Rays jack-of-all-trades Ben Zobrist, consider this: he is the first player since 1954 to make the All-Star Game and start at six different positions during the season.
Zobrist, now the Rays everyday second baseman, was named by his manager Joe Maddon, to [...]

ST. PETERSBURG— When asked about Matt Joyce and the possibility of him being returned to Durham upon the team getting back some of its injured players, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said that “you can’t run away from good performance.”
Joyce, called up from Durham on Saturday, May 30, has performed well enough in the [...]

It was a very bizarre game this afternoon at Tropicana Field, starting with the lineup gaffe by the Rays coaching staff, starter Andy Sonnanstine hitting an RBI double from the three-hole in the order, and Indians closer Kerry Wood coming in with two outs in the eighth inning for the purposes of beaning BJ [...]

Live from the press box at Tropicana Field:
The Tampa Bay Rays lineup card inadvertently listed both Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist as the starting 3B. The Rays lose the DH spot in the order, meaning Andy Sonnanstine will bat in the third spot. Longoria, because he did not officially enter the game, [...]

Scott Kazmir didn’t start the first inning in very promising fashion. Grady Sizemore hit his 19th career lead-off home run on a 2-0 pitch.
Sizemore is now the Indians all-time leader in lead-off home runs, passing Kenny Lofton, who had 18 in his career with the Indians.

Tampa Bay Rays leftfielder Carl Crawford, who missed Thursday’s game with a bruised right shoulder, is back in the No. 2 spot in the Rays order tonight against Cleveland.
Crawford, who leads the majors with 22 stolen bases, said “it feels pretty good, and I wouldn’t be out there if it didn’t feel like I could [...]
