I went back and forth yesterday on a list of picks I liked but just couldn’t nail down one that I could recommend. I narrowed it down to 4 but couldn’t spot just 1… good thing since I went 1-3 in those games I didn’t recommend.

Today was tough again but after consideration I nixed the Phillies/Mets going over 9.5, Baltimore (-150) in Koji’s return and the lukewarm Rangers (-108) over Toronto.

Instead, this happened…

TODAY’S PICKS

Chicago Cubs (-138) over Houston Astros
THE BET: 100 Units / Win = +100, Loss = -138

Russ Ortiz wasn’t good enough to stay in a mediocre rotation. If the Cubs’ bats are going to pick up, this is the game to do it in. The Cubs have Ryan Dempster who hasn’t been spectacular this year but also hasn’t given up an earned run in two outings. Cubs win! Cubs win?

YESTERDAY’S RECAP

Season-to-Date: 53-40, +600 Units, +961 Units Unadjusted

Yesterday’s Winners (Tuesday)
San Francisco Giants (-118) over Arizona Diamondbacks (Giants, 9-4)

Yesterday’s Losers (Tuesday)
None

Back-to-back extra inning losses on Friday and Saturday have continued a terrible June run for BDDs BBBs. An early Sunday internet outage cost me the opportunity to make a pick there and there just wasn’t a game worth taking a flyer on on Monday.

Even though we’re still 12 games over .500, the units figure is not moving in the right direction but we’ll look to fix that today:

TODAY’S PICKS

San Francisco Giants (-118) Arizona Diamondbacks
THE BET: 100 Units / Win = +100, Loss = -118

Let’s raise some Cain, baby! Matt Cain that is. Cain possesses a solid batting line of .202/.279/.394 against current Diamondbacks and squares off against inconsistent Billy Buckner. Both teams are coming off of a loss and there’s some concern over the West-to-East travel that the Giants must endure before Tuesday’s match-up. However, the West-to-East travel is usually easier than East-to-West and the Diamondbacks are one of the bottom teams in the National League. Cain is impressive on the road and should have beaten the D-backs back in April but the bullpen failed to cooperate. We’ll bank on history repeating itself only halfway this time.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP

Season-to-Date: 52-40, +500 Units, +861 Units Unadjusted

Yesterday’s Winners (Saturday)
None

Yesterday’s Losers (Saturday)
Chicago Cubs (-132) over Cincinnati Reds (Reds, 4-3)

Where did that come from? Rumors of Francisco Liriano’s death have been greatly exaggerated. He didn’t get the win but he did enough to keep the game knotted 1-1 and the Twins took down the Mariners in extra innings… and cost BDDs BBBs a win and 142 units.

TODAY’S PICKS

Chicago Cubs (-132) over Cincinnati Reds (Matt Maloney)
THE BET: 100 Units / Win = +100, Loss = -132

Ryan Dempster has little experience against current Reds but those 41 PAs have been impressive with Dempster owning a .179/.220/.179 batting line against. It’s not much but it is more than I have to go on Matt Maloney who is making his Major League debut. The Reds chose Homer Bailey before Maloney and that doesn’t give me much confidence in him in his debut.

Yesterday’s Losers
Seattle Mariners (-142) over Minnesota Twins (Twins, 2-1)
