BDD Live Presents Ken Rosenthal and World Series Preview

With the World Series on the horizon, BDD Live returned this Saturday with plenty of talk about the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies, while Boston and Tampa battle for the right to represent the junior circuit. Join host Eric SanInocencio for an hour’s worth of talk about October’s key players.

After a two week hiatus, great division action and heroic performances take center stage. Along with a panel of distinguished guests, BDD Live will take a look at the matchups that could decide the next World Series Champion.

The first guest in studio is Fox’s Ken Rosenthal. The noted journalist and reporter had a bird’s eye view for the Phillies victory in Los Angeles, and he shares his thoughts on what Philadelphia did to move on. Rosenthal also sheds some light on the Jake Peavy situation, with news and notes regarding some prominent free agents.

Next up is CBS Sports columnists Larry Dobrow who writes the Sports Schizophrenia section for the popular sports website. Dobrow comments on the Red Sox historical comeback, and how the AL winner shapes up the World Series.

Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Daily News is the next to stop by. Since we know one team involved in the Fall Classic, Hayes gives some historical perspective on this Philly run, and what to expect from the fighting Phils once the Fall Classic opens up next week.

And finally, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick rounds out the show with his always insightful viewpoint and analysis.

BDD Live Presents “The Pedro Alvarez” Special

Birmingham, Ala. — After what has been a whirlwind of litigation and controversy surrounding Pittsburgh’s top selection in this year’s draft, Pedro Alvarez is now a member of the Pirates organization. In this special presentation of BDD Live, we take a look back at all the players involved in this saga, and how a draft pick questioned the integrity of Major League Baseball. Join Eric SanInocencio as we dig through all the angles, and present different sides of a story that has unfolded at the highest levels of the game.

Scheduled guests include Pirates President Frank Coonelly, Baseball Prospectus writer Kevin Goldstein and Baseball America’s Jim Callis. Along with the interviews we’ll share clips from Alvarez himself, as he spoke with the media via teleconference yesterday after his contract was announced.

Coonelly joins us for a two-part segment, where he shares his thoughts on what took place pre and post signing deadline. The Pirates President, who for years worked in the league office, explains just what happened between the two camps as the final negotiations where taking place.

Goldstein will explain the legal ramifications of the grievance flied on Alvarez’s behalf, and what could have happened had the deal not been reached. Goldstein’s work on the issue has been in depth, and the Baseball Prospectus writer will enlighten us on some of the intricacies.From there we look to the future, where Callis will explain where Pedro fits in from here. How does he stack up in terms of prospects in Pittsburgh? That along with a full scouting report from the amateur guru during our hour presentation.

With one team having punched its way into the postseason, more slots are up for grabs as the final three weeks of play are sure to be packed with intensity and excitement. Phil Hughes joins us in the opening segment, fresh off his start in the Governor’s cup for the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. Birmingham, Ala. – BDD Live returns this Saturday with lots of ground to cover, and three more high profile guests to give you all the latest information in the baseball world. Join host Eric SanInocencio as we recap the week that was in the minor and major leagues.

Leading things off will be Cincinnati Reds prospect Yonder Alonso. Alonso, the 8th overall selection in this year’s draft, had an outstanding career for the Miami Hurricanes and will now look to continue his success in the Reds farm system. Alonso’s currently playing for the Sarasota Reds, and will share his thoughts on being drafted and taking the next step to stardom in the major leagues.

Next up is more draft discussion, as Baseball Prospectus’ own Kevin Goldstein steps in studio and will provide commentary on the Pedro Alvarez situation. Alvarez, the number two overall selection in the 2008 draft, was placed on the restricted list this week. His agent, Scott Boras, and the Pittsburg Pirates are in the midst of legal claims regarding the contract Alvarez appeared to agree to at the signing deadline. There are several layers to this developing legal situation, and its effect is already being felt all over the major leagues. Goldstein will share up to the minute happenings as the commissioner’s office prepares to square of with the Players Association.

Our second half returns us to the action on the field, with ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark joining the show. Stark has been a senior baseball writer for ESPN.com since 2000, contributing a Rumblings and Grumblings column and his tilted look inside baseball’s numbers and quirks, the Useless Information Department. The well-known baseball scribe will update us on the playoff chase, and hit all the interesting stories and subplots in the regular seasons’ final months.

As major league squads go down to the wire trying to sign this year’s major league draft selections, anther top prospect already entrenched in the minor league system joins BDD Live tomorrow. Join host Eric SanInocencio as Baseball Digest Daily brings you another edition of one of the top podcasts covering our national pastime.

Baltimore Oriole prospect Chris Tillman, a central part of the deal that sent Erik Bedard to Seattle, comes in studio to talk about the move to the Baltimore organization. Tillman is having an outstanding season at the Double-AA level, and will share his thoughts on his pitching style, his pro timetable and even his battery mate, fellow top prospect Matt Wieters.

From there we’ll analyze the week that was in the majors, complete with a waiver wire deal that saw Adam Dunn head West. Jim McLennan from AZ Snakepit joins us to lend some insight on the deal. McLennan’s popular blog has been in the middle of every move made out in the Desert, and he’ll give us the pulse of Diamondback fans after this blockbuster trade made earlier this week.

As one deadline passed by, another approaches with August 15th looming overhead. That of course is the final day for major league clubs to sign their draft picks, and that along with another group of star studded guests will highlight this week’s BDD Live broadcast. Join host Eric SanInocencio as this week’s podcast tackles the hottest topics of our national pastime.

Before the draft takes the spotlight, Philadelphia Phillies star reliever Chad Durbin will join us in studio, as his squad currently leads the three-way dogfight in the National League East. Durbin will comment on the Phillies success, and his transition to relief for Charlie Manuel’s squad. Having found his first taste of major success, Durbin has been a key component and currently leads Philadelphia in ERA. He is also the co-founder of Showcase U, a recruiting service aimed at baseball softball players looking for an opportunity to play at the collegiate level.

Next in the booth is Baseball America’s Jim Callis, with all the info surrounding the looming deadline for this year’s draft picks. 11 first round picks remain unsigned, including four of the top five selections. Callis will enlighten us and fans about the status of tomorrow’s stars, and give us insight on all the posturing and negotiating behind the scenes as deadline day closes in.

BDD Live: Trade Recap Bonanza!

Birmingham, Ala — After one of the most exciting weeks of the baseball season, BDD Live returns with another broadcast filled with opinion and analysis from all the movers and shakers at the trade deadline.

Moves were made across the country, and this week’s show will attempt to do the same. Join host Eric SanInocencio as he takes the pulse of the blogosphere, hitting the hot spots of every franchise that was active this past Thursday. Giving us the latest word are a list of writers who’ve been in the middle of all the action.

Opening up the show is Charlie Wilmoth of Bucs Dugout, as he talks about the eight new prospects joining the Pittsburgh organization after a slew of deals.

Next up is Rob McMillin of 6-4-2, and he’ll enlighten us on the West Coast mood after acquiring slugger Manny Ramirez. McMillin will add his thoughts on the Angels bringing Mark Teixeira in the fold, and how the Halos have powered through the northeast on their latest road trip.

We then move to Atlanta with Mac Thomason of Braves Journal. The Braves were expected to contend in 2008, yet moved hired gun Mark Texieira and now welcome young first sacker Casey Kotchman.

It all closes in New York, as Ben Kabak of River Ave Blues talks the junior circuit, and how the Yankees transformed their lineup over the past few days.
