Elvis Andrus was a rookie in 2009, and hence is available in most Strat-O-Matic league drafts this off-season. He usually is not one of the first two players taken, though he should be.

This is an article specific to Strat-O-Matic, specifically the role of defense. Others who are interested in the value of defense may find [...]

One of the most consistent fixtures at Baseball Daily Digest is the writing of Rob McQuown. Rob not only regularly treats BDD readers to some great insight and analysis, he also regularly served up “Roto Lunch” in ‘09 for BDD’s fantasy readers. There’s a good chance you caught Rob on a good day if you [...]

In Heater e-Magazine this week (heatermagazine.com), I tried to help out White Sox readers by describing the offensive adjustments from the regular 2009 lineup to the regular 2010 lineup:
“Here’s a decoder for the offensive changes to CWS in ‘10: Chris Getz to Juan Pierre, Jim Thome to Mark Teahen, Jermaine Dye to Andruw Jones. [...] [...]

Last December 3, I was invited to participate in an “Expert Mock Draft” with 11 other fantasy baseball experts. Well, it’s hit the stands and you can read USA Today’s discussion of that magazine here. The participants included:
Mock draft

Tom Kephart, BaseballHQ.com
Tim Heaney, KFFL.com
Ryan Hallam, Fighting chance Fantasy
Mike Podhorzer, FantasyPros911.com
Doug Anderson, RotoExperts.com

Hey all!  Remember 10 short months ago, when several baseball experts got together and picked the collection of players they would start a team with, considering only the following 6 years of major-league performance and assuming that salaries weren’t an issue?  That’s right… the Dream Draft!
Well, I thought it would be more interesting to post [...]

What exactly are we measuring?  Personality?  Manners?  The number of championships?  Whether you played for the Dodgers or Yankees?  If you can explain it to me, go ahead.
- Whitey Herzog on HOF selection criteria (from his 1998 book You’re Missin’ a Great Game).
Now, Jayson Stark “manned up” and openly discussed his HOF votes, for [...]

Okay, it’s a bad offseason to be Cubs fan… $7.5mil to an essentially replacement-level middle reliever in John Grabow, shipping out one of their best OBP guys because he failed “plays well with others” to get a $16mil hitting tee (cost for Carlos Silva for 2 years plus buyout after M’s contribution)… but then Ken [...]

Guerrilla Warfare is summarized on wikipedia as: “irregular warfare and combat in which a small group of combatants use mobile militaryfr tactics in the form of ambushes and raids to combat a larger and less mobile formal army.”  It’s from the Spanish “guerra” (war) and “-illa” (diminutive), translating literally to “little war”.  And throughout history, [...]

Many believe that Kershaw will get better, much better. This centers around 3 facts: a) he’s young, very young; b) his walk rate is higher than you’d like in an “ace” pitcher, and pitchers improve their walk rates; c) he doesn’t pitch deep into games, limiting his number of innings (partly due to a sane amount of caution with a young arm, and partly due to the walks). Is this a reasonable expectation?

Thanks for reading until we discontinued the daily posts on Roto Lunch.  I hope all your seasons went well, and would be interested in hearing any stories about teams which have used the waiver wire to their benefit this year.  I know I used it a lot!  Feel free to send email to robmcquown@yahoo.com.  Suggestions [...]
