Mark Levy joins the BDD team to give us the fan perspective as his New York Yankees travel through the 2009 postseason!

I am sure that everyone even remotely interested in baseball watched Game 6 of the World Series. Therefore, I’ll be brief.

The story of the game… Andy Pettitte pitched well on short rest. Hideki Matsui was an RBI machine, and once again Mariano Rivera shut the door on a fantastic Yankee season in their new stadium.

I have received everything I could ask for as a Yankee fan this year. They won the World Series playing exciting baseball. I watched this team since pre-season and seeing them come together was awesome. Four players received their fifth championship ring. Many players got their first, and I am happy for them all. It was trully a great year for all Yankee fans.

I stopped reading all the hate posts online because they mean nothing to me. Listening to Yankee haters spew their venom about money bores me. But everyone has a right to their opinion, so here is mine…

When I was a kid, I knew nothing about the relationship between pro baseball and money. I just became a Yankee fan and stuck with my team. I am loyal. If I were born in Pittsburgh, I would be a Pirates fan. Or in Kansas City, a Royals fan.

I look at the Yankees as a great company that likes to reinvest in itself. When the Yanks play out of town, they always put people in the stands. That alone is a form of revenue sharing. I am not going to root for another team because some people believe New York has an unfair advantage. As I have stated before, I enjoy great baseball from all teams, but it’s just better when the Yanks win.

Can’t wait ’till next year! Done and done.

Game 2
Being there. To be in Yankee Stadium for Game 2 was electric. A.J. Burnett earned his pinstripes. He was fantastic, not allowing the Philly bats do any damage. Burnett sure got it together since the ALCS. Pedro Martinez pitched a great game as well, but he couldn’t outduel A.J. All it took were solo shots by Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui. The Yankees are winning in team fashion with different guys making plays in each game. I enjoyed watching all the Philly fans leave the Stadium during the ninth inning. They knew the game was over.

Game 3
Halloween was always my favorite holiday. The only treat I needed was for the Yanks to win the first game in Philadelphia. I got what I wanted.

Nick Swisher was back in the starting lineup. That made me very happy. I have been defending this guy the entire season. He LOVES being a Yankee. Swish was the glue that kept the team together this year. On Saturday he made his presence known, delivering a double and a homerun.

Andy Pettitte gave up three runs early, but I felt he would stop the bleeding. He has the post season experience to keep it together. Pettitte hung in there, and Alex Rodriguez got things going with a two run shot. Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada all delivered key hits as well.

The Yankees are playing with heart, and I love it. This post season has been great, and New York needs just two more wins to make 2009 another season to remember.

I overheard people in a local deli say that they hope the Yanks lose one in Philly so the series has to come back to NYC. To that I say NO. If the Yanks can end it in Philadelphia, they should. The ticker tape parade will eventually be in Manhattan anyway. We can see the champions again there.

Game 4
Another great battle took place on Sunday between the Yankees and Phillies. Thanks to C.C. Sabathia and a resilient offense, New York took a 3 games to 1 series lead. But the World Series is still far from over. Great comebacks can happen anywhere and at any time.

Throughout the post season, different Yankee players have done great things to put the team in a position to win. In game 4, Johnny Damon was that player. Damon faced Brad Lidge with 2 outs and put up a tenacious at bat. After fighting off pitch after pitch, Damon hit a single keeping the Yanks alive. Seeing Johnny then steal second and third on the same play was all I needed. I just knew someone would find a way to get him home, and Arod did just that.

Mariano Rivera earned another save by throwing just 8 pitches, leaving him strong for his next appearance.

Game 5 means Cliff Lee. We all know New York had trouble with him in Game 1. That means nothing to me this time around. Let’s get it done…now!

Mark Levy joins the BDD team to give us the fan perspective as his New York Yankees travel through the 2009 postseason!

It’s now 2:00 AM. I’m tired. I’m tired from watching Cliff Lee take down the Yankee lineup. Nine complete innings of pitching dominance. I tip my Yankee cap to him on a great game. Lee certainlywon the battle against his former teammate C.C. Sabathia.

As I stated when I started writing about the Yanks after ALDS game 1, I love this club. People LOVE to hate them. I get that. Ask me about the Red Sox. But people need to find other things to talk about when they express their hatred toward the Yankees. The payroll issue is getting old. If that is all it took was money, then New York should be champions every year.

The 2009 Yanks are a great team having fun. I keep hearing that New York made it to the World Series because the Twins and Angels made mistakes. Give me a break. Did they win 103 regular season games just because other teams made errors?

All this useless information is irrelevant now anyway. Stats are great, but it comes down to heart. I have to admit, the Phillies are a great team. They have many weapons, but I still believe the Yanks will take the Series.

The Yankeess have to win game 2 Thursday night. I’ll be in the bleachers going crazy. If they can go down to Philly all tied up at one game apiece, I’ll be happy.

Since Yankee fans hate Pedro Martinez, game 2 should be fun. New York should bring Don Zimmer out to throw the first pitch.

I can’t wait to get into an Empire State of Mind with Jay-Z and the rest of the Yankee fans in attendance for game 2! Go Bombers!
