Betts and Martinez Out Slugging Judge and Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge may be taller and weigh more than J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts but when it comes to power, at least through the first quarter of the season, the Red Sox duo are winning hands down.

Everyone close to baseball expected the Yankees duo to crush the baseball, but its Mookie and J.D. who are tied atop baseball for home runs with 15 apiece not the two that wear pinstripes.

Martinez hit a pair of home runs on Sunday in Boston’s 5-0 win over Baltimore putting him into a tie with Betts. Martinez hit his first to right field and his second was a rocket that fans just watched in awe.

Boston’s Mookie and J.D. not only are sharing the leads in home runs, but are first and third, respectively in batting average in baseball; Betts is first in runs scored; and Martinez is second in RBIs.

Thanks to his .343 batting and his 41 RBIs, Martinez has become a candidate for the Triple Crown.

Although Boston has had numerous explosive offenses over the years, it is the first time the Red Sox have two players that have hit 15 home runs before the start of June.

This season has seen a huge change from last, when Boston had only one player with 15 or more home runs at the All-Star break (Betts 16).

When you compare figures between the duos with the Red Sox and Yankees, the numbers easily favor Boston’s two sluggers.

Betts is batting .365 with 15 home runs, 32 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

Martinez is batting .343 with 15 home runs, 41 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

Judge is batting .282 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Stanton is batting .263 with 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

When the Red Sox signed Martinez, the small concern the team had was how the power he has would end up at Fenway Park for 82 games per season, since he is rare when it comes to sluggers, as most of his home runs are to the opposite (right) field.

In 2017, 24 of the 45 homers Martinez hit were to either right center or right field. Thus far, his output has not been affected with 12 of his 15 home runs being to right center or right field.
