Mark Levy joins the BDD team to give us the fan perspective as his New York Yankees travel through the 2009 postseason!

Many people have been saying that the Yankees and Angels are the two best teams in baseball. I have to agree. This ALCS series should be quite a battle. Both teams have many weapons. I think that victory will come down to the bullpens and the bench, where I believe the Yanks have the advantage.

In game 1 last night, C.C. Sabathia was just awesome. He was in complete control of his pitches and never got off his mark. C.C. went 8 innings allowing one run, one walk and left in the 9th inning, only to give way to Mariano Rivera. C.C. was a powerhouse and showed he can perform in the post season.

Alex Rodriguez continued his RBI surge by bringing Derek Jeter in on a sacrifice fly. Shoddy defense by the Angels allowed Johnny Damon to score on a Hideki Matsui pop up that should have been caught. A big communication error between Chone Figgins and Erik Aybar gave the Yankees a 2-0 first inning lead, and they would never look back.

The Angels committed 3 errors on the evening, not common for the club from Anaheim, especially Torii Hunter. The Yankees, on the other hand, played solid defense with no errors.

This game had a tense feel to me. It was a cold night for baseball, but the Yankees had better pitching and played a fundamentally better game. A win is a win. It was a great start to the series.

The last two times these teams met in the post-season, the Yanks won the first game but went on to lose the series. I know these statistics are always interesting, but they really annoy me. It is a different season and team for New York. I still feel The Bombers take the series in six, statistics or not.
