Gomes Shoots 3

Cincinnati had something to cheer about last night. Johnny Gomes blasted 3 home runs in his first three at bats last night in a 7-0 win over the Nats. Gomes, who had hit three homers in a game once before, the last time coming on July 30, 2005 said, “This one’s a lot more emotional for me, I was in Triple-A to start this thing off, and now — not too many at-bats later — I have three home runs.” Gomes hit his first two homers off starter Collin Balester in the 2nd and 4th inning, and then the third off Jason Bergmann in the 6th. Each of Gomes home runs were off of different four seam fastballs of varying ineffectiveness.
