Roto Lunch – Luke 8:10

We look forward today with anticipation to the 2nd start in The Luke French Experiment. But before we do, the awesome baseball-reference.com site has a feature I just found out about last week (I know, I should read the fine print, right?) You can search for a player using “THE” in front of his name. This has the advantage of circumventing that annoying-but-necessary selection menu you get when there are 300 players with a similar name, so instead of “at least 168 hits” for “Aaron”, if you want Hammerin’ Hank, you can just type “the aaron”, and bam! There’s his page. Anyway, I discovered today that the following searches didn’t bring up the players I might have assumed:
- “THE elbert”
- “THE french”
9His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
” ‘though seeing, they may not see;
though hearing, they may not understand. (Luke 8:9-10, NIV)
Okay, I admit it, Luke French’s outing was right in front of me for last week, and though I saw the box score and heard what he did, I didn’t understand why the raves about him. But, he got the “W”, and pitching is all about Wins and Losses, right? Well, the White Sox may not have Billy Butler, but they have some guys who can hit lefty pitching from the right side. We’re hoping their flyballs land safely in Michael Saunders’ glove in LF, and the lefties can’t get anything going against French, as we pick him up again this week!
Starting Pitchers:
- Gavin Floyd is In Seattle, facing that non-existent offense.
- Doug Davis is at home against the Mets. If you cover up Wright’s name, do you recognize anyone else from the planned 2009 Mets team?
- Not going to recommend Luke French, but he’s not the worst matchup for today, as noted above.
Batters:
- 3b/1b Casey Blake – good matchup against J.Sanchez.
- ss/3b Gordon Beckham – Safeco isn’t great for him, but on a short day, he’s not bad.
- of Jeff Francoeur
- of J.D. Drew
- ss/2b Clint Barmes
- c Miguel Montero
- c Kurt Suzuki
- 1b Nick Johnson
