USA Today’s Bob Nightengale via Twitter: the Red Sox are about to acquire Victor Martinez from the Indians.
FOX now is reporting that Clay Buchholz and Daniel Bard are not in this deal and MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo is reporting that pitchers Bryan Price, Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson are in the deal. Hagadone, a closer in college, is a aggressive big lefty who throws strikes and throws hard, topping out at 98mph. In addition to his heat he throws a 82-83 mph plus slider and an 80 mph change. He’s said to have very good control and thought of as a team leader and a hard worker. Hagadone has Tommy John surgery in June of 2008 but returned to the mound a year later. MLB
Yahoo’s Tim Brown is reporting that the Twins have traded for Orlando Cabrerra. Minnesota will sent shortstop prospect Tyler Ladendorf to Oakland for Cabrera. The Twins are also reportedly receiving a cash in addition to OC.
From MLBTR:
Cabrera, 34, is hitting .280/.318/.365 on the season in 448 plate appearances. He has $1.75MM remaining on his contract, once you factor in a $250K bonus for being dealt. Though he profiles as a Type A free agent after the season, Cabrera’s agent wisely negotiated a clause disallowing his club to offer arbitration. So, no draft picks for the team for the loss and no impediment to signing Cabrera from the player’s point of view.
