..Last night at Citi Field in New York Alex Rodriguez passed another Yankee on the all time home run list. He’s now tied with Reggie “Mr. October” Jackson with 546 home runs good for the 11th spot on the career home run leader board. [AP]

..Speaking of the Yankees, it’s official outfielder Xaiver Nady is done for the season, as he’ll need Tommy John surgery to repair damage in his elbow. He started to feel discomfort on his minor league rehab assignment, while also being done for the season it’s most likely he could miss all of 2010. [New York Post]

“It’s disappointing,” said Joe Girardi, who didn’t confirm that Nady needs surgery to repair a ligament that first bothered him April 14 and forced him from a game against the Rays. “I am more disappointed for him than I am the club. You would love to have him back. He has put a lot of time into this. I know how bad he wants to play.”

..Lots of movement from the Tampa Bay Rays according to beat writer Marc Topkin. Pitcher Andy Sonnanstine to Triple A Durham and have designated pitcher Winston Abreu for assignment. This clears room to activated relief pitcher Chad Bradford and starter Scott Kazmir from the disabled list. [Heater]

..The Houston Astros have designated pitcher Brandon Backe for assignment to make room on the roster for catcher Ronnie Paulino, according to Astros beat writer Jason Grodsky. [MLB]

..It was pretty obvious that when Seattle catcher Kenji Johjima returned from the disabled list that someone has to go, and it wasn’t going to be catcher Rob Johnson. Catcher and Roseberg Oregon Native Jamie Burke has been designated for assignment. Of course this means the team has ten days to trade him, claimed off waivers or he could accept a minor league assignment. If he did accept such a deal, he’d be a backup there as well – Tacoma has two catching prospects on their roster, Jeff Clement and Adam Moore. [The News Tribune]

..Toronto Blue Jays catcher Rod Barajas will avoid the disabled list after tweaking his hamstring last night. He’s reportedly feeling better and manager Cito Gaston figured putting him on the DL would be a waste of time.

“He feels good today,” Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. “To go and throw him on the DL for 15 days when the guy could be OK in a couple days, that would be a waste. So, we’re just going to see what happens. He’s day-to-day and we’ll see what happens with that. If it gets worse, we might do something else.”

Barajas will serve as backup catcher to Raul Chavez. [MLB]

..Just before the Card’s and Twins got underway last night at Busch Stadium, a 32 year-old man fell off the upper deck and to the concourse below. The man was sent to the hospital for observation, according the CBSSports.com report – the man had passed out due to the 92 degree heat (this coming from witnesses, the team wouldn’t confirm this).
