Roto Lunch – June 16

Roto Lunch is back after a long weekend absence.  We know you missed us reminding you of things like Jose Contreras against a righty-vulnerable Milwaukee lineup would have been a good play.  But it was a good weekend to be away for us, as accidentally leaving Johan in the minors somehow miraculously turned out to be a genius play. :>

Starting Pitchers:

Two SP are worth considering, but are far from certain to do well today, as both are NL pitchers on the road in AL parks: Paul Maholm at Minnesota would feel better if Michael Cuddyer was a little less good at home.  Likewise, the Royals have delusions of adequecy against lefty starters, and a couple guys who can really hit them well, so Doug Davis might be good, but against Gil Meche, even a W is no sure thing.

Batters:

- of Pat Burrell is a fantastic play today in Colorado. His career slugging there is .699, and he’s always hit lefties hard.  Add to that the recent (and career-long) struggles of Jorge De La Rosa, and you have a powder keg.

- of Melky Cabrera home in The Bandbox against the Nats pitching!

- 1b/3b Casey Blake appears to be healthy again, and is at home against lefty Braden.  Very good play today.

-  It’s hard to not completely write off guys facing Hamels, but he’s been Human this year, and 3b Scott Rolen is hitting .320 on the season, going to Philly, and facing a lefty.  There are worse plays at 3b today, by far.

- We haven’t seen Sean O’Sullivan hurl yet, but his ERA in AAA was over 6, and he’s just 21.  For some reason, RHB have hit him harder (he’s a righty), so hot Aaron Rowand may be the best of the SF outfielders to play today.  But Randy Winn and Nate Schierholz are both worth consideration, too.  We had all three going in the 10-team league yesterday, and while it wasn’t spectacular, they collected 4 hits.

2b/3b Ian Stewart at home against a mediocre RHP.

- of Juan Rivera was a pickup on all of our teams yesterday, and  paid off handsomely.  Expect more of the same against Jon Sanchez today.

2b Kelly Johnson @ Cincy is a decent play, even though Harang is good.

- c A.J. Pierzynski at Wrigley against Zambrano.

- of Nolan Reimold is on about a 40-HR/100-RBI pace, and while Pelfry isn’t the best matchup for him, he’s not exactly Tom Seaver, either.  And having Reimold rostered looks like a good season-long move.

- 1b Billy Butler vs Davis.

- c Miguel Olivo vs Davis.  He’s hot, and he’s always had good pop vsL.  Be sure to make him go away before he faces a righty, though.

-  The available options at shortstop are again putrid, with 2b/3b/ss Brendan Harris being the best of a bad lot.  He should hold his own against LHP Maholm.

- 3b Billy Hall is a great play against lefty Sowers, if he gets to start.
