Wednesday’s matchup of the day takes us out west for game two of the three game series between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels.

Boston enters action today in second place with a record of 21-12 and just a game behind the division leading Blue Jays. The Angels, winners of 7 of their last 10, also reside in second place, a game and a half back of the Texas Rangers.

On Tuesday, the Sox rallied for 2 runs in the 8th inning and another in the 9th to come from behind and edge the Angels, 4-3. Tonight, Boston sends Tim Wakefield to the mound to oppose Matt Palmer of Los Angeles.

The 42 year-old Wakefield is 4-1 with an ERA of 2.93 and a WHIP of 1.13. Opponents have hit just .186 against the knuckleballer, but his BABIP of .228 suggests that Wakefield has been more lucky than good.

The 30 year-old Palmer makes his fourth start of the year after going 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA in his first three outings. He’ll have his work cut out for him, however, as he must take on the league’s second highest scoring offense.
