In the top of the eighth inning in St. Louis, Rick Ankiel made a running catch in left-center on a fly ball hit by Pedro Feliz. Unfortunately, he could not halt his momentum in time and ran into the fence, collapsing immediately upon impact. There was about a 15-minute game stoppage and Ankiel was carted off, replaced by Colby Rasmus.

He was seen talking to the teammates crowded around him and he gave the crowd a thumbs-up as he was carted away.

Per Yahoo! Sports:

X-rays and a CT scan of Ankiel’s head, neck and back were all negative and showed no fractures, team spokesman Brian Bartow said. Ankiel remained hospitalized overnight for observation and the team said he was day-to-day.
