Baseball’s Best Bets (April 30, 2009)

Tuesday was a losing day but BDD’s BBBs bounced back last night with two wins thanks to excellent pitching performances from Zack Greinke and Tim Lincecum partnered with some healthy offense from both, too. The two wins takes the season record to 30-20 and +609 units (+971 units if counting all bets equally). I could take the easy way out and lock up a 60% month by taking the day off… Instead:
TODAY’S PICKS
Milwaukee Brewers (-110) over Arizona Diamondbacks
THE BET: 100 Units / Win = +100, Loss = -110
Jeff Suppan isn’t awful and he’s very good at Miller Park (17-7, 3.70 ERA in 38 starts). His career batting line against current D-backs is not terrible either (.270/.338/.426) but this bet isn’t really about Suppan having success. The D-backs were a bad road team last year (34-47) and playing back-to-back days with a road trip tied in (Arizona played at home on Wednesday) is usually challenging, too. Max Scherzer is probably better than I give him credit for because I typically have a bias against unproven, young pitchers but there’s something to be said about the fact that he’s 0-6 in his short career. He’ll win one eventually… I’m just hoping it’s not Thursday.
