Baseball’s Best Bets (April 20, 2009)

The red hot Dodgers ruined my perfect day yesterday but 4-1 at +401 units is still a pretty good result.

A smaller card today has limited the options and while I’m not crazy about any of the games on the schedule, there is one that I kind of like:

TODAY’S PICKS

Florida Marlins (-116) over Pittsburgh Pirates
THE BET: 100 Units / Win = +100, Loss = -116

The hottest team in baseball has given me sweaty palms the last two days but came through with two come-from-behind wins against the lowly Nationals. The Pirates aren’t much better and are 6-20 in their last 26 as a home underdog and 4-17 in their last 21 against a left-handed starter. Neither starter — Andrew Miller for Florida and Ross Ohlendorf for Pittsburgh — has been exposed to either lineups which is a good thing for Ohlendorf since the Marlins are hitting well and bad for Miller since the Pirates aren’t. Hard to believe I’m predicting the Marlins to go to 7-0 on a road trip.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP

Milwaukee Brewers (+149) over New York Mets (Brewers, 4-2)
Cincinnati Reds (-113) over Houston Astros (Reds, 4-2)
