In tonight’s Yankee-Rays blow out, New York Yankee Nick Swisher moved from first over a few feet to take the mound in the bottom of the 8th inning. Swisher threw 22 pitches, 12 for strikes while facing 5 batters. He ended up walking one, giving up one hit and striking out Gabe Kapler. Swisher’s fastest pitch was clocked at 80.2 mph according to Pitch-F/X data and his release point was all over the place (see below). Swisher’s pitch speed increased as his outing went on, capping off a night in which he also hit his third home run of the season. Swisher and the Yankees will do whatever they can to get him some playing time.
