Roto Lunch – April 11

In last week’s Heater e-Magazine (please use this link if you’re interested), I quipped:
The steps Ozzie will try in the “Dewayne Wise Failure Plan” will be to a) stick with him for a while, b) try Chris Getz in leadoff with A.J. Pierzynski batting #2, and Brian Anderson batting #9, c) trade for Ken Griffey again.
… leave it to Ozzie to churn through options faster than anyone thought possible. Today, it’s Brent Lillibridge. He has impact speed, though his bat looks insufficient to hold a job. The same was almost certainly written about a certain Marlins third baseman before the year, though, so keep an eye onthe situation… the White Sox *will* score runs, so getting their regulars is a good idea.
- Speaking of the White Sox, Josh Fields *is* a good gamble today against a lefty, even though that lefty is the very tough Francisco Liriano.
- On the North side of Chicago, Koyie Hill is probably the best “feel good” story of the baseball season, and he seems to have found something since coming back from his hand injury that he hadn’t found before. Keep him in mind as an option against bad RHP. Dave Bush isn’t bad enough – find a different catcher today.
- If he’s still on waivers, get Jerrod Saltalamacchia. He’s the catcher in Texas, and that ballpark and lineup will make him worth having even if he doesn’t hit much, but he should also hit about as well as the second-tier catchers (i.e. not Wieters, Martin, McCann, Mauer, Soto).
- Get any Florida Marlins today! At home. Against Livan Hernandez… paydirt!
- Kawakami should be a good matchup vs the Nats today.
- Chris Snyder is an excellent catcher today. He’s a career .277/.372/.482 hitter against LHP, and Eric Stults is not very good.
- Jonathan Sanchez is one of the better unheralded pitchers in the NL, and should match up really well against the Padres, and their lefty bats.
- Brandon Inge (C, 3B) faces unproven Matt Harrison today, and has hit lefties in the past. Another good pickup if you need one of these positions.
- If you’re scrambling for SB, a risky play would be to pick up Randy Winn and/or Fred Lewis against Peavy today. While they are unlikely to get on base, Peavy doesn’t hold runners at all, so their chance of grabbing a steal is higher.
