Jose GuillenRoyals outfielder Jose Guillen will miss the team’s home opener after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 2 tear of the right groin muscle. The move was concurrent with the promotion of Sidney Ponson from Triple-A to make the start on Friday against the Yankees.

The injury to Guillen instantly costs the Royals one of their best right-handed bats against lefty Andy Pettitte, scheduled to pitch for the visiting Yankees on Friday. For tonight’s game, Mark Teahen replaces Guillen in the cleanup spot and in right field. David DeJesus moves to third in the lineup — the spot where Teahen had been — and Alberto Callaspo is in for Teahen at second base.

Guillen was 2-for-12 in the first three games of the year against the Chicago White Sox with a .286 on-base percentage and one run scored.
