Baseball’s Best Bets (April 7, 2009)

The Mariners and Blue Jays helped salvage a rough Opening Day for my best bets. Although a 2-2 record and -118 units is hardly worth calling salvaged. It’s not where you start but where you finish, right?
There’s only one game on the dance card we like for Tuesday and, honestly, it’s not the strongest play on the board:
TODAY’S PICKS
Minnesota Twins (-102) over Seattle Mariners
Maybe it’s just a coincidence and not a trend but Erik Bedard doesn’t pitch well against the Minnesota Twins or at the Metrodome. In seven career starts vs. the Twins, Bedard is 0-5 with a 4.84 ERA and he’s 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA in three starts at the Metrodome. Pitching for the other side, it’s no coincidence that Nick Blackburn is a different pitcher in the Metrodome. In 17 games (14 starts), Blackburn is 8-3 with a 2.96 ERA compared to his 3-10 record and 5.37 ERA in 22 games (19 starts) on the road.
YESTERDAY’S RECAP
