  • The Dodgers today received a letter from Scott Boras, the agent for Manny Ramirez, rejecting the offer that the club made yesterday. Meanwhile, Los Angeles signed Doug Mientkiewicz to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
  • Left-hander Erik Bedard is scheduled to start for the Mariners against the Dodgers on Friday.
  • Pittsburgh’s Pedro Alvarez doubled as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning, knocking in the Bucs first run today against the Red Sox.
  • Former BDD writer Matt LaPorta doubled and homered in the Indians’ loss to the Diamondbacks today, 15-9.
  • Coco Crisp went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Kyle Davies pitched 2 scoreless innings in the Royals 7-2 win over the Rangers.
  • Jordan Walden threw 2 scoreless innings and struck out 3 to lead the Angels over the A’s, 3-1.
  • Russell Martin doubled, homered, and knocked in 3 runs to lead a 16 run, 17 hit assault as the Dodgers clubbed the Giants, 16-7.
  • Minnesota’s Nick Blackburn was perfect for 2 innings on the hill, and Cincinnati’s Micah Owings pitched 3 shutout innings in the Twins 10-4 win over the Reds.
  • Washington’s Collin Balester and Jordan Zimmerman combined to toss 4 scoreless, no-hit innings in the Nationals 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Rick Porcello allowed one run on 2 hits while striking out 2 in an inning of work for Detroit.
  • Atlanta’s top prospect Tommy Hanson gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk in 2 innings of work for the Braves against the Astros this afternoon. He also managed to notch 2 strikeouts.
  • Baltimore’s Matt Wieters went hitless in 2 at bats, but Nolan Reimold homered and drove in 4 runs in the Orioles 11-3 romp over the Cardinals.
  • Philadelphia’s Carlos Carrasco struck out 3 over 2 perfect innings despite Philadelphia’s 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays.
  • New York’s Jose Reyes hit a grand slam, a solo homer and drove in six runs as the Mets routed the Florida Marlins 9-0.
  • The Yankees’ DH Jorge Posada doubled, homered, and drove in 2 runs, and Phil Hughes pitched 2 strong innings as the Yankees downed the Rays, 5-1.

And in college baseball, San Diego State starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg, the consensus first overall pick in the upcoming June amateur draft, pitched the Aztecs to a win tonight over Nevada to run his record to 2-0. Strasburg struck out 16 while allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings.
