Baseball America released their list of the Top 100 Prospects today. Leading the list is the much hyped Matt Weiters of the Baltimore Orioles, followed by Tampa’s David Price. Cardinal OF Colby Rasmus takes #3 while fellow Braves Tommy Hanson and Jason Heyward round out the top 5. The list predicts that 8 of the top 10 players will reach the majors in 2009 with a handful already experience a cup of coffee in ‘08. The rest of the list can be found at the link i provided above and we know that baseball fans love lists.

A little note on the top two guys on this list…Price and Weiters has deservingly gained a ton of attention this year with Weiters projecting to hit .311/.395/.544 with 31 dingers and and 102 RBI’s according to BP’s PECOTA projections. Price, who splashed onto the scene last year at the end of the season and more notably in the playoffs with the Rays is projects to pitch 102.3 innings with an unimpressive 4.20ERA with 78 K’s and 37BB. I think that in reality Weiters won’t live up to the lofty expectations set forth for him by PECOTA and Price will pitch a little better then predicted but both may struggle at times having to face the Red Sox and Yankees so many times through out the season.
