…In a ceremony when Miami renamed a baseball field in his honor, Alex Rodriguez addressed the PED scandal that has consumed him and the media for the past week or so. [Yahoo]
“I have been so fortunate to have received so much from a game I love so much,” Rodriguez said. “That doesn’t mean I haven’t made mistakes, and unless you’ve been in a cave under the ocean this last week, you know that I’ve made some. What it does mean is that I understand only in America can you dream big, work hard, and be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams.”
…Speaking of A-Rod, Selena Roberts who broke the steroids story has had her book “A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez” release date moved up a month from April to March. [AP]
…Third Baseman Bill Hall of the Milwaukee Brewers will be out for 4 to 6 weeks after partially tearing his left calf. He was hurt conditioning on his own on Thursday, and it looks like Mike Lamb will be getting reps at 3rd. [AP]
…As the Barry Bonds drama moves forward, now Federal Prosecutors plan to call Bonds’ personal shopper who allegedly saw his personal trainer inject him with steroids. [CBS]
…More on the Barry Bonds front, as far as “The Hammer” Hank Aaron Barry can keep the home run record. He doesn’t want Major League Baseball to change the record which would put Hank back on top. [ESPN]
“In all fairness to everybody, I just don’t see how you really can do a thing like that and just say somebody isn’t the record holder anymore, and let’s go back to the way that it was,” Aaron told the Journal-Constitution Friday, referring to the controversy involving Bonds, Mark McGwire, Alex Rodriguez and other players who have been linked to performance enhancing drugs.
…The New York Yankees have signed journeyman pitcher Brent Tomko to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. [CBS]
