Tom GordonThe Arizona Diamondbacks and relief pitcher Tom Gordon officially reached an agreement on a one-year, $500,000 contract on Friday.

The 41-year-old righty is coming off of a 2008 season that saw him sidelined in July due to right elbow inflammation. For the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, Gordon posted a 5-4 record with two saves and a 5.16 ERA. Gordon’s inflated ERA was not representative of his actual performance — Gordon did not allow a run in 24 of 34 of his appearances.

Throughout his 20-year career, Gordon owns a 138-125 record with 159 saves and a 3.94 ERA. He has also made three All-Star appearances and won the A.L. Rolaids Relief Award in 1998 as a member of the Boston Red Sox. During the 1998 season, Gordon led the American League with 46 saves. The Diamondbacks represent Gordon’s seventh Major League team.

In addition to the $500,000 salary, Gordon can earn $2.5 million in bonuses based on time on the active roster.
