..The Cincinnati Reds have signed free agent lefty specialist Arthur Rhodes to a 2 year $4 million dollar deal. Last season the 39 year old split time with Seattle and Florida. [Yahoo]
…The Houston Astros have non-tendered third baseman Ty Wigginton thus making him a free agent. Here’s what Astros GM Ed Wade had to say about the move to non-tender Wigginton. [Yahoo]
“It was a very difficult call to make on Ty, he did a tremendous job for us last season, but economics forced us to make this decision,” general manager Ed Wade said. “I spoke with Ty and let him know that if there is an opportunity for us to adjust our payroll later in the offseason, we’d like to see if there’s an opportunity to bring him back.”
…The Atlanta Braves have non-tendered lefty Chuck James. Of all the arbitration eligible players, he was the only one not tendered a contract. It’s expected that James will be out most, if not all of the 2009 season rehabbing from shoulder surgery. There is a possibility the Braves might offer him a minor league contract at some point. …James Burns of the Merced Sun-Star is reporting that free agent closer Brian Fuentes that the LAA Angels would be his first choice as a club to sign with. And imagine that, they need a closer. Fuentes is from the Merced area and would love to play near his home. [Merced Sun-Star]
…With the Philadelphia Phillies signing free agent left fielder (and I use that term “left fielder” lightly) Raul Ibanez, the Chicago Cubs apparently are going after Milton Bradley. This is according to Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. [Chicago Sun-Times]
…The Washington Nationals have re-signed outfielder Willie Harris to a 2 year, $3 Million dollar deal on Friday. [Washington Post]
…Former New York Yankees All-Star outfielder Bernie Williams is on his way to play winter ball to hopefully ready to play for Team Puerto Rico when the World Baseball Classic rolls around two months. This according to ESPN’s Bonnie Bernstein. [ESPN]
