Short Hops: No No-No for CC and More

…MLB’s scoring review committee has denied the appeal of the Milwaukee Brewers on a scoring ruling that denied CC Sabathia a no hitter.

Here’s the statement released by Major League Baseball.

“The committee held an extensive and constructive discussion after viewing footage of the play in question and considering the documentation presented by the Brewers. It was the collective decision of the committee that the judgment of the scorer was not “clearly erroneous,” which is the standard set forth in Official Scoring Rule 10.01(a), and thus did not meet the criteria for League reversal of the call made by Official Scorer Bob Webb.

“Major League Baseball appreciates the work that official scorers do throughout the season,” said Phyllis Merhige, MLB’s Senior Vice President for Club Relations. “Bob Webb is a 20-year veteran scorer who is held in high regard. This play is a reminder of the difficult decisions that official scorers faced throughout the season.”

According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times is reporting that both the Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies are interested in the recently released Tadahito Iguchi, he was just recently let go by the San Diego Padres.

…Speaking of the San Diego Padres, GM Kevin Towers according to Cory Brock of MLB.com is ready to talk money with closer Trevor Hoffman before the end of the season. Its seems that the feeling is mutual towards returning Hoffman to the end of the bullpen for the 2009 season.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt he wants to come back and there’s no doubt that we want him back,” Towers said.

LA Angels starter Jered Weaver will miss his next scheduled start due to cuts on his finger tips on his pitching hand. Whats even weirder about this, is that he got it from the visitors dugout bench. Weaver went to push himself up off the bench, and ended up cutting himself. He should only miss one start, and make his next start against the Yankees on Monday.

Instant Replay was used for the first time last night, in the Yankees/Rays game. Of course for some reason it seems fitting that the call in question was a Alex Rodriguez home run, which was ruled as such after about a 2 minute delay while looking at the replay.

“I’m the first player. Next time I’m going stealth and go under the radar screen,” Rodriguez said. “It’s very fitting I’m involved. I was just glad we got the right call.”

…Seattle Mariners Right Fielder Ichiro! is only 18 hits away from hitting the 200 hits plateau (again), if he does collect those final 18 he will have done so for the eighth straight season which would tie a major league record held by Willie Keeler. And if that wasn’t enough, Ichiro is on pace to score 100 runs for his eighth consecutive season. This would tie him with former Mariner Alex Rodriguez as the only American League Players to reach triple digits in runs scored since 2001.

  1. So instant replay is being used on tapper singles to resolve a scoring conflict?

I still hate replay on home runs…I wonder how ARods home run affected the win probability of that game?
